Everything you need to pack for the perfect summer holiday

Forget Santa's sack, it's deciding what to pack in your own bag this holiday period that's occupying most people's minds. It's a struggle that splits people firmly into one of?two camps: you're either jittery with excitement at the thought of a long-awaited getaway; or lying awake in bed at night trying to go over every possible scenario and item that might be required during your sojourn.

Historically, I fall into the latter category. Not because I'm anxious but I am a notorious over packer. Two days at the family farm? Cool, that should require five pairs of shoes and several jeans, some swimmers, four books, a jacket, a suit, gym kit, a toaster, the coffee machine ?– you name it, I'll find a reason to take it.

But that was the old me.

The new me is more about packing well, as opposed to packing for everything. Which means curating what goes into that suitcase to ensure minimum effort for maximum style and entertainment.

This means choosing a pair of boardies that can easily double as a pair of stylish shorts, such as those by New York-based brand Aime Leon Dore. Team that up with summer staple shirt by local brand Double Rainbouu or a luxe polo from Berluti for the evening and that already sets you up in the style stakes. Finish it all off with a pair of 22K gold plate sunglasses by Ahlem and you'll be living la dolce vita, even if it's just by the backyard pool.

A good book is requisite for the longer days and Derek Riley's incredible Gulpilil should be top of your list. Ambience can be provided by a Beats Pill+ along with a chilled glass of Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque champagne – it is the holiday season, after all.

Taking care of your skin post-sun is important (taking care of your skin pre-sun with some sunscreen is non-negotiable) so that means also packing a decent aftersun treatment by Aesop and give your face a refresher in the evening with a rich moisturising mask courtesy of Sisley. Even if you aren't heading anywhere exotic this summer you can at least smell like you are with the latest Penhaligon's fragrance from their Trade Routes range: Cairo.

And that's how you pack for a perfect Christmas holiday.
